1. Software download

a) eMule-NG

This eMule version builds in new functionalities that allow searches to be done on NewsGroups. It is based on eMule's official version.

The first step to be taken is to download eMule-NG.

b) www.use-next.net

The application offered by Use-Next.net is one of the best softwares allowing downloads on the NewsGroups. Its interface is quite simple and it benefits from a quality support. It allows you to access anonymously to millions of all kind of non-censured files.

It uses the services of UseNext corporation, which offers you a 14-days free trial. It will give you time to appreciate the high speed donwload, up to 500 Kb/s.

To get to try Use-Next.net you have to subscribe yourself to a 14-days free trial.

Once you are on Use-Next.net website, click on "sign up" and fill in the subscription form.

Once the subscription is done, you will receive your ID and password by email. Use these information to log into your client zone on Use-Next.net website.

Click on "download" on the left menu, then on "Download" to proceed to the download.

2. Setting up the NewsGroups client

Once the application is downloaded, double-click it and follow the set up information. UseNeXT software will automatically start after installation.

As you run it for the first time, you will be asked to put in the information to access the News server. Click on "Yes" and type in the user's name and the password provided by the mail you received after doing your subscription.

(You will recognise the access data to the application for the login name starting with "avi-xxxxx". The ID and password that you used on Use-Next.net do NOT work for the UseNeXT application!)

Settings

On UseNeXT software, click on "Options".

You can change the destination folder of the downloaded files (A).

Your connection speed can be defined, but if you leave this field empty (B), UseNext will go up to 500 Kb/s if your bandwidth allows so.

You can decide how much of your bandwidth is to be used by UseNeXT on field (C).

On what is concerned to a combined utilisation of this software with eMule, the setting reaches its end here.

If you want to learn how to use UseNeXT software to download files directly from the NewsGroups without passing through eMule, you can get some help here.

Now you can close UseNext-NG and start the installation of eMule-NG.

3. Setting up eMule-NG

Unzip the file, then open the installation file "eMule0.47a-Installer.exe". Follow the instructions. You can get some help here.

4. First try

When you do a search on eMule-NG, the first results shown come from the NewsGroups. As you double-click the file you wish to download, UseNext application will automatically start downloading it. You can use eMule to do searches only on the NewsGroups if you choose on "Method" the option "Usenet".

To follow the download's progression, you have to go directly on UseNext programme. Quite different from eMule, when you download on the NewsGroup you don't share any file, all you do is downloading.

While your eMule takes several hours to deliver a 700 MB file, with UseNext it won't take more than 30 minutes (if your bandwidth allows it), it is really fast.

To conclude, thanks to our new application eMule-NG, it is possible to know whether the file one is looking for is available on a NewsGroup or uniquely on eDonkey/eMule network. In an affirmative case, the download via UseNext will show itself to be extremely quicker than via eMule.

Downloading via NewsGroups is anonymous; the provider does not keep any connection log and during the loading you do not share any of the files on your downloads list.

There is absolutely no risk in trying it for the 14 free days, so why not making the experience?
